Arthritis Walk®

Thank you for participating in the 2012 Arthritis Walk®!
The Arthritis Walk® is the signature fundraising event for the Arthritis Foundation. But it's not just an event, it's a celebration of year-round movement to help prevent and treat arthritis.

Every year we get together to celebrate movement and make a positive impact on the lives of people living with arthritis by raising funds for arthritis research, education and life improvement programs in communities across the country.

Our rallying cry, Let's Move Together® encourages people to get up and get moving. When you join us at the Arthritis Walk®, you're not moving alone-you are becoming part of a community looking to achieve better health and change lives at the same time. We hope to see you there!

Are you involved with the Arthritis Walk because of a child with arthritis? Then read on, because this may apply to you! Arthritis Walk teams within the Heartland Region that fundraise $1200 or more will receive free JA Conference registration for one family of four. That's right, raise $1200 or more at the Arthritis Walk, and the Arthritis Foundation will cover the registration fees of one family of four. If you have questions about this fundraising incentive, please contact your local AF staff Walk Manager or Chris Crowley at ccrowley@arthritis.org. Learn more about the JA Conference.

Local area band RESTLESS FIT will be providing live music at the Cedar Rapids Walk.

Youth Honoree - Liam Blader
Liam’s grandmother first noticed he was limping when he was just a little over 2 years old. The family thought it was because of his new shoes, but later discovered that wasn’t the case. His doctor thought Liam was suffering from Hip Dysplasia, and ordered numerous x-rays, and countless follow-up doctor visits. It wasn’t until Liam was seen by Dr. Polly Ferguson, at the University of Iowa, that his diagnosis of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) was given. His condition causes him knee, ankle and foot pain.

Honoree - Brian Sly
Brian was 15 years old when he was diagnosed with a form of Juvenile Arthritis. For several months prior to his diagnosis he was plagued with hip pain. At his age, his family thought he was just experiencing “growing pains.” Physical therapy and adjustments provided little relief, and his pain was evident to everyone around him; watching him walk, it was very clear he was suffering.
